About the Tea experience
Visitors can enjoy a tea ceremony experience in the historic Shofu-an Tea House. The Toyoura school of tea ceremony, which was introduced via Daitokuji Temple in Iga, was founded by the Ashikaga family in the Muromachi period (1336-1573) and is a gorgeous school that is said to be descended from the court nobles. The tea bowls and jujubes used are large, and tea and sweets are served on a tenmokudai, rather than directly on the tatami mats.
